What tokens are, in plain language.

When you ask the AI a question, upload a picture, or talk to it out loud, that uses up a small amount of credit. We call that credit a "token." There are three kinds, one for each type of activity. Tokens don't expire — you buy a batch, and it sits there until it's used, with nothing charged monthly just for having an account.

The three tokens

Here's what each one is for, and roughly what it costs in real money.

TokenCredit nameWhat it burns≈ Value
Text tokenTGSilverQuestions and answers on the page. Everyday use. Low-cost.€0.00002 each · ~50,000 per €1
Voice tokenTGCobaltMinutes of speaking and hearing. Still expensive in the AI world.€0.001 each · ~1,000 per €1
File tokenTGGoldUploads — pictures, worksheets, documents. Use rarely.€0.0005 each · ~2,000 per €1

Text is by far the lowest-cost, which is why most everyday use — conversation, quick questions, study help — barely touches your credit. Voice and file uploads cost more per use, simply because they take more computing to process. The values above are averaged across all pack sizes. Full breakdown below, so nothing is hidden.

Bigger packs work out very slightly lower per token — a few thousandths of a cent, never more. There's no trick pricing here: buying bigger just saves you a tiny bit, it never costs you more.

Your key is not a token

These are two different things, and it's worth keeping them separate in your head. Your key identifies your account and lets you in, and creating it is free. But the key alone doesn't let anyone talk to the AI. The models only understand tokens, which you get with a ticket or by buying credit — that's the ongoing, pay-as-you-go part. Think of the key as your membership card, and tokens as what you actually spend once you're in the building.

How to keep costs low

A few simple habits keep the credit lasting a long time. Lean on text tokens for everyday use — they're by far the lowest-cost, and most learning and conversation happens there. If you want a completely free option for long, casual back-and-forth, the free tiers of Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok in another browser tab work fine for that. Save voice tokens for when hearing genuinely matters — practicing a language out loud, or reading along with a tired reader — since voice costs more per minute than text does per question. File tokens (uploading pictures, worksheets, or documents) are the ones to use most sparingly, and only when the AI actually needs to see something rather than just be told about it.
